Region of Jurisdiction

Located in Hualien County, eastern Taiwan, our Office’s jurisdiction area includes Hualien City, Fonglin Township, Yuli Township, Ji-an Township, Sioulin Township, Sincheng Township, Shoufu Township, Wangrong Township, Guangfu Township, Rueisuei Township, Fongbin Township, Jhuosi Township and Fuli Township – one city and twelve townships altogether. The size of the region is 4,628.5714 square kilometers. The whole county’s visual outline looks like that of a sleeping silkworm. The east-west width ranges from 27 to 43 kilometers; the north-south length is 7.5 kilometers. In the hinterland of the region are mountains, whereas in the foreground is the sea. Its scenery is really amazing. Its population is over 358,000. Four major ethnic groups – Chinese, Taiwanese, Hakka people, and aboriginal people – live together harmoniously. Aboriginal tribes living here include the Atayal, Bunun, Ami, etc. who are spread throughout the townships. The County has high mountains, a remote location, and frankly inconvenient transport -- so industrial and commercial developments are less advanced. The region’s inhabitants mainly depend on farming, forestry, fishing and animal husbandry for their living -- so population customs are unsophisticated.
